
GPS maker, Garmin International, has launched its DC 40 tracking collar, an upgrade version of Astro Dog Tracking Collar. The DC40 is intended to enable owners to monitor a dog’s location and activity at distances up to seven miles. The new DC40 is mounted on an orange polyurethane collar strap, and the GPS ‘puck’ is integrated into the collar’s housing. The new DC 40 also features a PIN-based collar lock which makes the dogs easily tracked only by their owner. The device supports for up to ten dogs per receiver. It is convenient, durable, waterproof, and runs on a rechargeable battery that should last for 17 to 48 hours, while the receiver runs on two AA batteries. The Astro comes with a detailed 24K topographic maps and optional road map data which can be load in using a microSD slot. The Astro dog tracking system all in one with an Astro receiver and a DC 40 wireless transmitter collar cost $599.99.

Magellans introduced its waterproof iPod/iPhone case. Big in size, about three times as thick as an iPhone 3GS, makes it unpocketable. Its touchscreen layer enabled users to use the phone as normal: talking, listening to music (but the line-in microphone stops working), accessing data through 3G/Wi-Fi and using the on-board GPS or the GPS in the case itself. The product is aimed for outdoorsmen or clumsy people and costs a lot ($200).

Thinkware plan to release the new iNAVI KE100 GPS navigation device with features 7-inch high resolution LCD screen, powered by a 900MHz processor, a SiRF V6 GPS technology, an integrated DMB, audio and video playback, and multiple sensors. The iNAVI KE100 will comes with “iNAVI Real 3D” electronic map which brings useful information on the 3D environment structure.
